GREENFIELD — Instead of pint glasses and bar stools, the former Lefty’s Brewing Co. taproom on Wells Street will soon feature custom-printed apparel such as T-shirts and jackets.
Jessica Cronin is moving Cronin Co., a contract custom apparel printing and fulfillment company, from Wilmington, Vermont, to Greenfield, with plans to open April 1, though by appointment only. Cronin said small-business resources are limited in the Green Mountain State’s Windham County, prompting the move.
“The population is too small to reach our local revenue goals,” she said this week. “Relocating gives us new resources, networking opportunities and space for expanding.”
Cronin, 28, said her company uses commercial printers to focus on direct-to-garment printing. She said the process differs from screen printing in that the machines use ink to dye a garment’s fibers directly.
She has worked with businesses across the United States. Cronin Co. offers in-house graphic design services and custom apparel printing on garments as well as other print methods, like sublimation and screen printing, to local businesses, schools and events.
“I’m quite passionate about graphic design. I have enjoyed building a business from the ground up,” she said, adding that she previously worked in the dental field for about five years for no other reason than to have a steady job and a paycheck. Cronin said she lost her significant other to suicide in 2016, greatly impacting her motivation to succeed and create the life she desires. She has goals she aims to reach before turning 30, and relocating her business will assist in surpassing such goals.
Cronin started her company in January 2019, after leaving the dental field. She had managed the Community Health Center of Franklin County’s dental departments and was a chairside dental assistant.
Cronin said she still lives in Vermont, which she has called home for almost 10 years, but grew up in Massachusetts, starting in Plainfield and then Agawam, where she graduated high school. Her educational background includes dentistry, community health and graphic design — she attended The Lower Pioneer Valley Career and Technical Education Center, where she began her graphic design education, during high school.
