HOUSTON (ICIS)–China’s latest list of proposed tariffs against the US covers hundreds of chemicals and plastics, with the first batch taking effect in a little more than a week.

In all, China has proposed tariffs on $75bn of goods, with the first batch taking place on 1 September. Some will receive tariffs of 5% and others will receive tariffs of 10%.

The second batch of tariffs will take effect on 15 December. Like the first, some products will receive tariffs of 5% and some will receive tariffs of 10%.

China is imposing the tariffs in retaliation to the US imposing duties of 10% on $300bn worth of imports.

Some of the US tariffs will take effect on 1 September. The rest will take effect on 15 December.
